Holiday and Vacation Scheduling for 2006 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Friday, 10 February 2006
This memorandum is being issued to assist you in planning work and vacation schedules for the 2006 calendar year. The University will observe seven (7) official holidays within those 12 months:

Independence Day Tuesday, July 4
Labor Day Monday, September 4
Thanksgiving Day
and the day following Thursday and Friday, November 23 and 24
Christmas Day Monday, December 25
New Year's Day Monday, January 1, 2007

In addition, for those units of the University who will observe four (4) Season Days, they are: December 26, 27, 28 and 29. (Flexibility in scheduling the four [4] Season Days between November 13, 2006 and January 15, 2007 is provided for units operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week, or where work must be scheduled during this period.)

Because other days may be of more significance than a University-designated holiday, a staff member may request approval to substitute up to three (3) holidays of his/her choice for any three (3) University holidays. Written request of substitution(s) for the upcoming fiscal year must be given to the immediate supervisor on or before July 1st of that year.

Health System employees covered by a paid time off (PTO) plan may request time off during the winter holidays consistent with their department policies. Departments may also assign paid time off (or no pay time if requested by the employee and permitted by the department's policy) during this period to accommodate reduced workload or unit closure.

Employees in bargaining units observe holidays and Season Days as indicated in their respective agreements. If you have questions relating to this policy or contractual provisions, please call one of the following offices:

HR/AA Staff HR 734/763-2387
Health System Human Resources 734/647-2385
Flint Campus HR 810/762-3150
Dearborn Campus HR 313/593-5190

Please advise your staff members about your department's holiday schedule as soon as possible so they can plan their vacations and holidays. This schedule will also be posted on the HR/AA website: http://www.umich.edu/~hraa.

NOTE: This email is for informational purposes only. Please do not reply as your reply will not be received.
